VUSTA to promote ties with provincial members

The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) have organised a regular meeting with its provincial members in the northern mountain Lao Cai province.

The August 29 meeting was co-chaired by VUSTA President Dang Vu Minh and Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai People’s Committee Dang Xuan Thanh.

According to a report presented by VUSTA Vice President cum Secretary General Pham Van Tan, in 2013 VUSTA had five new members, namely the Vietnam Association For Safe Water and Environment, the Vietnam Aloe Wood Association, the Vietnam Association of Social Sciences, the Bac Kan and Hung Yen provincial Unions of Science and Technology Associations.

Regarding theoretical and practical issues, VUSTA has contributed to the preparation for the 12th National Party Congress as assigned by the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee under a project themed “reviewing 30 years gathering and uniting intellectuals in science and technology for the national industrialisation and modernisation”, the report said.

VUSTA has also worked closely with the Ministry of Science and Technology to organised various science and technology events at national level and celebrate the Vietnam Science and Technology Day.

VUSTA has completed guidelines for consultancy, judgement and social expertise activities to help its members and cooperated with the Ministry of Finance to draft a Circular to guide the financial mechanism for the activities.

The Union has also signed three memoranda of understanding in promoting cooperation with Thang Long University, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, and the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee. Under the MOU between VUSTA and Vietnam Administration of Forestry, both agencies have built a cooperation program for the 2014-2015 period with feasible activities. The union has also implemented various programs within the framework of cooperation with National Assembly Agencies and the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Participants in the meeting discussed ways to improve VUSTA management efficiency in coordinating with its members, implementing its tasks in 2014, especially in consultancy, judgement and social expertise; knowledge dissemination, community development and poverty reduction.

VUSTA should promote activities to honour outstanding intellectuals, strengthen cooperation with its central and provincial members though regular meetings, review its operation in 2014 and work out plans for 2015, they said.

Participants also urged VUSTA to foster ties with Party, Government and National Assembly agencies, as well as with provincial authorities and other related Vietnamese and foreign organisations.
