VFF President urges VUSTA to uphold intelelctuals’ contributions

The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) should further encourage Vietnamese intellectuals’ contributions.

Speaking at a September 6 working session between the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFF) and the VUSTA, VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan asked the union to renovate its thinking in implementation of the resolution of the sixth session of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee on science and technology development.

Speaking highly of professors’ initiatives and recommendations in boosting cooperation between both agencies, Mr Nhan said he will send them to related agencies.

VFF President Nhan said as young intellectuals are an important force of the country in the context of international integration and asked the VUSTA to create favourable conditions for them to participate in science and technology projects.

Mr Nhan said he supports top-down policy reform as well as the application of effective models.

He also requested the VUSTA to publish an annual “Vietnamese intellectual” magazine in order to honour scientists for their contribution to science and technology development.

Regarding supervision and social expertise, the VFF leader asked VUSTA to take the initiative to look at hot issues in addition to those assigned by the State.

Scientists should uphold their role in increasing the quality of consultancy, judgement and social expertise as well as strengthen the national unity block.

In order to make Vietnam become an agricultural power, VFF President said, scientists should join hands with farmers and people from all walks of life to contribute to the national construction and development.

At the meeting, VUSTA’s professors proposed to encourage businesses to pay due attention to scientific research and application as well as honor outstanding companies for effective application of scientific and technological advances.
