The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUTA) on September 30 organised a workshop on “Policy instruments facilitating the development of non-state science and technology organizations”

The workshop was attended by Mr. Le Bo Linh, Vice Head of the National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment; Mr. Tran Viet Hung, VUSTA Vice President, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies, NAFOSTES Foundation, the FIRST Project, some foreign embassies in Hanoi, and VUSTA affiliated organizations and provincial members.

Addressing the event, VUSTA Vice President Tran Viet Hung said there are now nearly 400 non-state science and technology organizations under VUSTA. These organizations have significantly contributed to the development of science research activities and technological application in Vietnam.

The development of non-state science and technology organizations, particularly VUSTA’s members, plays an important role in the development of Vietnam’s science and technology, he said, emphasizing that a legal framework is needed to support such activities.

According to a representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology, these activities are operating in accordance to the Law on Science and Technology 2013.

The Ministry is assessing the operation of more than 2,000 science and technology organizations, laying a foundation for the building of related laws and regulations that meet the development demand of these organizations, he said.

Participants in the workshop also discussed the building of policies related to investment, financial and tax policies for non-state science and technology organizations in accordance to the Law on Science and Technology 2013.
