Informatics contest for the blind opens

Twenty blind people are taking part in the first informatics contest, which opened in Ho Chi Minh City, on September on September 14, 2014.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department for Information and Communications said the contest aims to encourage blind people to apply information technology in life, thus improving their capacity and helping them integrate better.

Vu Anh Tuan, Secretary General of the Ho Chi Minh City Informatics Association said any blind person can register for the competition.

There are three contests for members of the Ho Chi Minh City Blind Association, for young members and students, he said, adding that the results will be announced at the association website (www.hoinguoimu.vn).

Those who win prizes at the contest will be selected to take part in the first National Informatics Competition organized by the Vietnam Blind Association in November, 2014.

On the occasion of the competition, information technology organizations such as Larion, Global Cybersoft, the Information technology Institute under the Hanoi University of Technology, the Sao Mai Centre, also presented five computers to the Ho Chi Minh City Blind Association.

Ho Chi Minh City Blind Association now has 1,381 members living in 21 districts. However, only 143 of its members have access to informatics training.
