Mr. Tran Huu Dang, President of the Thua Thien Hue Union of Science and Technology Associations presented the outcomes of the five-year implementation of the Direction.

As soon as Direction No. 42-CT/TW was issued, Thua Thien Hue authority issued Action Plan No. 01-Ctr/TU and a coordination regulation between the Union and related Departments and Agencies. The Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee also issued Plan No. 14/KH-UBND on the implementation of Action Plan No. 01-Ctr/TU and Plan No. 61/KH-UBND on the consolidation of the Union’s Organisation.

However, he said, there are numerous difficulties, pointing out that the Union has yet to be recognised as a socio-political organisations. This leads to difficulties in the innovation of the Union’s operation.

Local authority has not created favourable conditions for consultancy, judgement and social expertise and there remain shortcomings in the Union’s coordination activities.

Mr. Dang expressed his hopes that VUSTA will propose that the government approved projects, especially financial projects; and recognise VUSTA and its member organisations as socio-political organisations in accordance to Direction No. 42-CT/TW.

Participants in the meetings also asked VUSTA to further uphold the role of Vietnamese intellectuals; carry out science and technology projects; and conduct consultancy, judgement and social expertise in a practical manner.
