VIFOTEC Award 2016 honors 45 scientific and technological innovations

On 16 May in Hanoi, a ceremony of presenting Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) award of 2016 was held. Attending the ceremony were leaders of the permanent Presidium of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), representatives of Ministries, Sectors and Branches at the central level and Hanoi, award winners, press agencies and mass media.

Over 23 years of construction and development, 2,400 works have been attracted to VIFOTEC Award and 775 works won the prize. These works have been applied in practice and in the priority areas of the State and have a great significance to production and creation of a technology market for life, security and defense.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dang Vu Minh - President of VUSTA cum Chairman of VIFOTEC stressed that “VIFOTEC award is the one to honor technology scientists whose works are of great importance in science and socio-economic development. Also, it encourages technology scientists to study and apply modern scientific and technological achievements to be applied in production and life in Vietnam. Awarded works in recent years have been applied effectively in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the production of businesses, raising productivity and quality, lowering production costs and substituting imports. In the coming years, VIFOTEC will cooperate with scientists and creators to develop the movement of science and technology creation across the country in a deeper, more practical and effective manner, contributing to the industrialization and modernization of the country.

In 2016, 11 provinces and cities, 1 ministry and 1 economic group with 95 scientific works in fields of mechanics - automation, material technology, information technology and biotechnology for production and life, technology to respond to climate change and technology to save energy and use new energy have participated in VIFOTEC Award.

The organization board decided to award 45 works, including 4 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 15 third prizes and 17 consolation prizes.

The first prize was awarded to the following works: "Researching, designing and manufacturing night vision telescopes for marine region" by Doan Ngoc Hiep (Enterprise No. 23, Factory Z199); "Researching, improving the quality of SCT-9 anti-tank rifle (SGP-9) in response to climate change and in line with Vietnamese environment by Cu Duc Lam (Factory Z125); "Building a 56-seat passenger boat using the Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) material" by Nguyen Kim Son (Hanoi); "Intensive cultivation of citronella on land affected by climate change to collect oil for consumption, export and production of microbial fertilizers from distilled residue" by Dr. Le Van Tri (Hanoi).

The works receiving the second, third and consolation prizes are those in 6 fields, namely mechanics - automation, material technology, information technology - electronics - telecommunications, biology for production and life and technology to respond to climate change, environmental protection and reasonable use of resources and technology to save energy and use new energy.

This year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has reviewed and awarded the Certificate and Gold Medal to two most outstanding works in application of intellectual property in production and life. They are "Intensive cultivation of citronella in the climate change affected land to harvest essential oil for consumption, export and production of microbial fertilizers from distilled residue" by Le Van Tri et al. of Biotech Joint Stock Company and "Building a 56-seat passenger boat using the Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) material" by Nguyen Kim Son et al. of James Boat Technology Joint Stock Company.
