Promoting cooperation between Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and Guangxi Association for Science and Technology (China) on dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge

In the morning of 8 June 2018, at the headquarters of VUSTA, Prof. Dang Vu Minh, President of VUSTA gave a warm reception to the delegation of Guangxi Association for Science and Technology (China) led by Mr. Na Xiang , Secretary of the Party Committee - President of the Association visiting and working in Vietnam. The seminar also attracted the participation of Science and Technology Associations of the national sectors and Union of Science and Technology Associations of Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Cao Bang and Ha Giang.

President Na Xiang and members of the delegation said that China paid special attention to science popularization and has been so far the first and single country in the world that promulgated laws on dissemination of science and technology. China Association for Science and Technology played the leading role in this work. Chinese Party and State leaders have always stressed the importance of scientific dissemination and devoted considerable funds to this work with more than 1 billion Yuan per year, focusing on four main subjects: Young people, officials, workers and farmers to improve their knowledge and skills in science and technology. Knowledge dissemination activities are organized from the central to local levels (district, town, village) in various forms such as National Day of Science and Technology, National Teenagers Science and Technology Initiative Contest, Chinese Teenagers Robot Contest. In addition, the popularization of science in China has been conducted effectively through a system of more than 500 science and technology museums across the country and tens of thousands of mobile science museum travels to all regions of the country.

In discussions at the seminar, VUSTA and member associations shared their experiences on dissemination of knowledge, guidance on agricultural techniques for farmers, communication on the protection of the environment and biodiversity in Vietnam, especially in localities. Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has proposed a transnational cooperation on the conservation of Cao Vit gibbon, a rare and endemic species listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species that is at risk of extinction. There have been around 160 gibbons living in Bang Luong Nature Reserve of China and Trung Khanh Nature Reserve of Vietnam. The counterparty expressed their interest in this content and commit to discuss the possibility of cooperation after the delegation returned to Guangxi.

For other contents of cooperation in the coming time, the two parties proposed the exchange of publications for dissemination of scientific knowledge, organization of cooperation promotion activities, scientific exhibitions, annual science camps for the youth between Guangxi and the Vietnam-China bordering provinces and cooperation in biodiversity conservation.
