Overview of the conference

On July 13 in Hanoi, the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations held the conference to summarize the Vietnam Science and Technology Award 2017 and launch the 2018 Award.

In 2017, the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Association sent to the Organizing Committee of Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award 5 works. The project “Process and system of drying garbage that uses heat recovery equipment with non-moving heat recovery material and method of arranging blocks of material” was awarded the second prize. Three works won the third prize include: Research, design, manufacturing machine MCV20X5000; Machine to filter salt water into fresh water to meet the needs of people living in the salty Mekong River delta, fishermen, coastal islands and Truong Son islands…

Mr. Nguyen Phuc Thanh shared about his work that won the second prize, this project, with the novelty of having at least two heat recovery units working alternately, has not yet found in any waste incinerator facilities in Vietnam, the innovative ability of this project to apply and replicate is very good because modular design system should be easily applied to factories of different scale; It is possible to utilize the excess heat from the furnace for drying or heating the other technologies in need, including neighboring plants that require the use of heat. Economic efficiency is a reduction of 90% DO fuel compared to conventional waste incineration systems, reduction of environmental and social impacts from garbage water.

Prof. Dr.Vu Hoan, President of the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations said that the number of initial registration works for 2017 were the same with 2016, the number  of projects moved  up to the upper level and get the prize is less but almost negligible.

Professor Hoan added that the organizing committee of the city and especially the standing board has made many efforts to mobilize, encourage and create favorable conditions for the units to participate in the Award. Most of the works won the prize were almost from production facilities, there are not many works of the departments, especially the research projects at the city level.

In 2017, with the active communication, dissemination and organization of the award, the Hanoi Union was awarded Certificate of Merit by the Organizing Committee of Vietnam Science and Technology Creation Award.

The won works is required to be new, innovative, applied in Vietnam for the first time; to have economic, technical and social benefits; able to be applied on by industry scale, easy to manufacture, easy to find materials...

Organizers said that priority will be given to applied science and technology works in remote, mountainous and island areas with highly effectiveness and to young authors. The authors of the won works are proposed by the organizers to be awarded the Labor Medal by the President and the Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister.
