Ceremony on MOU signing between VUSTA and MRLG

Mr. Pham Van Tan - Vice President cum Secretary General of VUSTA, Mr. Nguyen Huu Ninh - Representative of GRET-LEI and Mr. John Meadows – Team leader of MRLG project in Vietnam signed the MOU.

On 10th June , in Hanoi, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and Mekong Land Governance Project (MRLG) held the MOU signing ceremony on implementing MRLG’s project activities - Phase II in Vietnam. Mr. Pham Van Tan - Vice President cum Secretary General of VUSTA, Mr. Nguyen Huu Ninh - Representative of GRET-LEI and Mr. John Meadows – Team leader of MRLG project in Vietnam signed this MOU.

Attending the signing ceremony were Mr. Nghiem Vu Khai - VUSTA Vice President, Mr. Phan Tung Mau - VUSTA Vice President, representatives from General Department of Land Administration, VUSTA's departments, some affiliated organisations under VUSTA and MRLG.

The Project objective is to provide a wide range of stakeholders across the land, natural resource, and investment sectors with targeted effort towards improving policies, institutional strengthening and practical methods that smallholder women and men farmers to have secure and equitable access to and control over agricultural land and forest in the Mekong Region (Lao PDR, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, hereinafter referred to as “CLMV countries”).

MRLG has operated during Phase 1 in Vietnam under a Memorandum of Understanding with IPSARD, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in November 2015.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Tan - Vice President and Secretary General of VUSTA highly appreciated MRLG's support and close coordination in completing the MOU in Support for the Implementation of Mekong Region Land Governance Project – Phase 2 in Vietnam. He believes that the implementation of this MOU will be carried out smoothly, effectively, the procedures will be quickly resolved in  compliance with Vietnamese laws and regulations.

Mr. John Meadows – Team leader of MRLG in Vietnam expressed his pleasure at the signing of MOU between the two parties. Regarding the plan to implement Phase II in Vietnam, he said, both parties agree that the cooperative duration will be covered until the end of Phase 2, expectedly 2022 or upon mutual agreement to terminate.

Mr. John Meadows – Team leader of MRLG in Vietnam

Mr. Pham Van Tan also asked the two sides to soon implement specific activities under the signed cooperation framework. At the same time, the content and cooperation program also need to be regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure practicality, consistent with the actual needs.
