Approving the non-refundable ODA "Hold my hand" project of PHAD Institute, funded by USAID

Sustainable and Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Services for Person with Severe Disabilities in Binh Dinh and Quang Nam provinces (Hold my hand) has been approved at Decision No. 187/QD-LHHVN dated March 6, 2019 by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). The project is run by Institute of Population, Health and Development (PHAD), a scientific and technological organization under VUSTA with non-refundable ODA funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The project will be implemented in Binh Dinh and Quang Nam provinces for a period of 3 years, from October 2018 to October 2021, with a total funding of approximately $ 2 million, in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services and other domestic and foreign partnerships. The project will build a sustainable model in Binh Dinh and Quang Nam to support rehabilitation service provision to meet the multi-faceted needs of persons with severe disabilities, especially gender-specific needs and vulnerabilities

After 3 years of implementation, the project is expected to achieve specific results including 10 rehabilitation units at provincial and district hospitals in Binh Dinh which will be able to provide multi-specialized rehabilitation services for PWDs at local; at least 32 medical technician/practitioner will be formally trained on therapeutic/speech therapy activities with professional practice certificates and professional qualifications in comply with regulations of MOH and insurance agencies; 600 carers and home care collaborators will be improved their knowledge and skills in providing home care support and rehabilitation for people with disabilities; 160 rehabilitation staff and health management staff from the project districts will be improved their knowledge of gender violence to provide equal rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.

As the governing body, VUSTA will work closely with relevant ministries to monitor and supervise the project implementation to ensure the achievement of the project's results and objectives.
