More and more students, with burning desire, are making every efforts to bring their invention and research to life.

Automatic clothes hanger making machine

Nguyen Van Binh, Nguyen Minh Triet, Bui Tien Cong, and Nguyen Thanh Duy who are all electrical and electronic engineering technology students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education have successfully invented an automatic clothes hanger making machine.

“Once when I was hanging my clothes I saw that we did not have enough hangers for all clothes. I immediately recognized the importance of such small hangers in everyday life”, Nguyen Van Binh said as he was talking about the initial ideas of inventing such machine.

I encouraged some of my friends to join me, he said, adding that they carefully studied the hydraulic power and compressed air technology, microcontroller for their project and completed it in four months.

Talking about difficulties facing the team, Bui Tien Cong said lacks of machines and money made them look for old material in industrial garbage dump.

There were times we became discouraged, but finally we overcame it and completed our project, said the student.

The electricity-run machine is operating based on the air cylinder’s motion. In order to make a hanger, worker simply press the “Start” button and wait for the machine to automatically curve to make the hanger.

It is calculated that the each machine, which can make as many as 240 hangers/hour will cost about VND 6 million, much cheaper than imported one, said Nguyen Minh Triet.

Nguyen Thanh Duy said in the future, they will have to try to make the machine smaller and highly productive, as well as reduce the noise it makes while in operation, in order to satisfy businesses.

Tra fish disease prevention

Being aware of a dangerous disease caused by edwardsiella ictaluri bacterium, which damages the cultivation of Tra fish, a group of young people including Do Phuong Quynh, Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien, Nguyen Thi Thuy, Vo Ngoc Yen Nhi, Nguyen Hoang Tuan Duy, and Nguyen Van Minh from the Ho Chi Minh City Open University, decided to conduct research on “the production of probiotic from bacillus to control edwardsiella ictaluri, which causes disease in Tra fish”

We have always wanted to produce a kind of products to support the aquaculture sector, which can be applied in people’s daily lives, so we were all happy when our teachers recommended producing one for the Tra fish cultivation, said Do Phuong Quynh, head of the group.

In the two years of the projects, we experienced various failures and felt discouraged, Phuong said, citing that most of the 1,500 tra fish they bought for the first experiment died.

Limited documents is also a challenge as this was a new issue. We sometimes have to consult our teachers and experienced people to thoroughly understand the problem after reading the documents carefully.

She expressed belief that their product can help prevent the disease for Tra fish at the maximum level. It can also cut down the abuse of antibiotics and chemical substances which can damage the environment.

The project is said to win the second prize at the Ho Chi Minh City’s Eureka Award in 2013.

We want to follow our project and bring it to real life, Do Phuong Quynh said.
