Vietnam bags three gold at int’l Math Olympiad

The Vietnamese team has pocketed three gold, two silver and a bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Cape Town, South Africa.

 According to the Examination Department under the Ministry of Education and Training, three golds were bagged by Tran Hong Quan from Thai Binh High School in northern Thai Binh Province, Pham Tuan Huy from the high school for gifted students under the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, and Nguyen The Hoan from the high school for gifted students under the Vietnam National University - Hanoi.

Vuong Nguyen Thuy Dung from Le Quy Don High School in central Da Nang City and Ho Quoc Dang Hung from the high school for gifted students under the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City grabbed two silver medals.

The bronze medal went to Nguyen Huy Tung from Tran Phu High School in northern Hai Phong City.

This is the second gold medal Huy has won from the IMO contest. Last year he won a gold medal at the IMO organized in Colombia.

The 2014 IMO attracted 560 students from 101 countries and territories, who competed for 49 gold, 113 silver, and 133 bronze medals.

The Vietnamese team ranked 10th at the contest after China, the U.S., Taiwan, Russia, Japan, Ukraine, South Korea, Singapore, and Canada.
