Principles and purposes:

It is a voluntary social-professional organization of the Associations specialized in geology, the geological associations of provinces and cities under the Central Government, collective members and members of the Geological Societies to unite and strive to build the country in the period of industrialization and modernization. The Vietnam Union of Geological Sciences is a centralized and democratic organization; the minority is submissive to the majority, operating under the State laws; it is a member of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

Functions and tasks:

1. To regulate and coordinate the activities of the member associations to gather, encourage and assist the geologists together to preserve and promote the solidarity and cordial tradition, to improve the professional skills, professional ethics, promoting the scientific and professional research and dissemination of knowledge contributing to bring the Vietnam’s Geology gradually modernized, for the sake of a prosperous people, a strong country and a justice, democratic and civilized society.

2. To organize and perform scientific research themes, to establish application research projects of science and technology issues in the field of geology.

3. To implement consultancy, judgment and social expertise in geology; to consult on the scientific basis building for the formulation of guidelines, policies and laws as well as plans and projects of science development related to geology.

4. To exchange experiences with other scientific and technical organizations in geology at home and abroad in accordance with the laws.
